Reference management with Citavi
The library at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences has a campus license for the software "Citavi - Literature Management and Knowledge Organization". Professors, students and staff can use this program at work and at home free of charge.
How do you get Citavi?
- First download the free version of Citavi and install it on your computer.
- To use the full version and work with cloud projects, open a Citavi account with your h_da email address. Authentication with a freemailer address (web.de, GMX, Gmail etc.) is not possible.
- Open Citavi and click on the login symbol in the start window. Enter your access data for the Citavi account. The licence information will now be recognised automatically.
After the end of your studies or employment at h_da, you may no longer use the full version of Citavi.
Citavi is a reference management software and offers three areas of application:
The core of Citavi is the reference management. You can use it to search for literature online in library catalogs and subject databases and transfer the references you find directly into Citavi. The reference management itself supports a variety of document types such as monographs, collected works, journal articles and online documents. The names of authors, journals, editors, etc. are stored in separate directories and can be easily searched and reused for future references. You can transfer citations and references directly from Citavi into your own texts (essays, papers, theses, etc.) and define a citation style beforehand.
The Knowledge Organization application area offers a range of options for enriching the content of individual title data and organizing its further processing. These include abstracts, tables of contents, keywords, citations and annotations. You can also use categories to organize the titles hierarchically and clearly. By using the various knowledge organization tools, you can not only manage researched literature, but also structure your reading and carry out other important preparatory work for writing your own texts (creating outlines, etc.).
