Borrowing, loan periods, reservations
Borrowing and self-lending
You can borrow media on site at the circulation desk with your library card or your activated CampusCard. In addition, self-checkout devices are available at all locations. There you can check out your media yourself using your CampusCard or your library card and receive a receipt. Loan period extensions and returns are also possible via the self-checkout devices.
Loan periods
The loan period for all borrowable media is 28 days.
Magazines and media with the spine label "Not available for loan" or "Presence" cannot be borrowed.
Special loan period for the thesis
If you are writing your bachelor's, master's or diploma thesis, you can apply for an extended loan period. As soon as we have received confirmation from the department, you will receive a special loan period for all loans up to the submission date of your thesis. Please complete the application form and have it signed by your supervising professor.
Please note that if the deadline for submitting your thesis is delayed, the special loan period for the books will not be extended automatically and reminder fees may be charged. Therefore, please notify us in good time.
Prebookings
If your desired item is currently on loan, you can reserve it via the search_da search portal. When the reserved item arrives at the library, you will be notified by e-mail. The item will then be deposited in the relevant library for you. You can view your current reservations at any time in your loan account.
Order between the Darmstadt and Dieburg locations
Items that are only available at one of the two locations, the central library or the Dieburg branch library, will also be sent to Dieburg or Darmstadt. A transport service brings the media twice a week to the library nearest to you for borrowing. You can then collect the books you have ordered from around 2 pm. Please use our online form for this service: Order between locations.
